AHMEDABAD: A military intelligence team questioned those caught with 21.5 kg of ganja (cannabis) during checking on July 11. The team approached government railway police (GRP) officials at Kalupur on Monday after the accused revealed that he had fled from a military training unit. According to GRP officials, a team led by inspector PP Pirojiya had caught Devbrat Prajapati, a native of Itawa, Uttar Pradesh and resident of Adipur, Kutch.
He was discovered during checking that took place during the Rath Yatra period. He had come to the city on the Navjeevan Express and was to take the Kutch Express in the morning. When he saw the police presence, he decided to travel by road. During checking of his bag, police had found the contraband worth Rs 1.29 lakh.
"During our questioning, he mentioned a brief stint with the army and his connection with various army personnel who are his relatives. After that, we informed military intelligence (SCLU), who then came to the city and questioned him. He has told them that he had spent three months in training at Nasik and then absconded. An extensive search took place for him, but he had gone underground," said a GRP official.
